International trademark registration Registering a trade mark in other countries is useful for exporters and businesses that are seeking expansion abroad. International registration of a trade mark or brand can be carried out under the Madrid Protocol. The Madrid Protocol is an international arrangement for registering trademarks in several different countries. It operates under the Madrid system for international registration of trade marks, under which the Republic of Ireland is a Protocol party.
